How to Populate a Datamart

A datamart will be useless unless it contains actual data. In this section we will look at how to populate a datamart. Upon completing the previous steps (see How to Create a Datamart), the system displays a confirmation message indicating the next steps and the fields for customer and product details are shown.

Populating a Datamart

  1. Select customer fields. Choose the following fields from the Customer source: Customer Name, Country, Industry, Region, Customer Group

  2. Select product fields. Choose the Product Group field from the Product source.

  1. Select pricing and financial fields. Select the following fields from the Data source: Global List Price, Gross Margin, Cost, Promotion Discount, Invoice Price, Local List Price, Net Price, Quantity

  2. Click on the Add to Fields button at the bottom (on the black ribbon) to include the selected fields.

The system displays a confirmation message at the top of the window. All selected fields from the existing data sources appear on the right side.

You can also create additional field for margin result. To store a margin result, an additional field must be created in the datamart.

  1. Click on the Add Field icon at the top-right of the window to create an additional field.

  2. Enter the required fields marked with red asterisks (Data Type, Label, Name, Expression or formula).

  3. Click on the Add Field button in blue, at the bottom.

The system displays the new additional field with the calculated formula to store the margin result.

Deploying Fields

  1. Click on the Deploy button in the top-right corner.

The system will show all fields in green color (if no warnings are displayed).

  1. Click again on the Deploy button in blue at the bottom of the window.

The system displays a confirmation message.

  1. Click OK.

A confirmation message also appears after deployment completion. You will se the different data sources under the Owner column.

The datamart field structure is now completed.

To ensure that the datamart gets populated you must execute a Data Load process.

Executing Data Load Process

  1. Go to the main menu and navigate to Analytics > Data Manager > Data Loads.

The system displays a list of all data load executions.

  1. Click on your datamart with Refresh-Draft status.

On the left-side section, unselect the Incremental checkbox to ensure complete calculation.

  1. Click on the Run Data Load icon in the top-right corner.

  1. Click on the OK in the confirmation message.

The system performs the data load processing with Pending status.

Wait until the status changes to Ready.

Reviewing Data Load

  1. Click the Refresh button at the top-corner of the window.

You can now review the data load of your datamart with Ready status.

To review Datamart information go to the main menu and navigate to Analytics > Data Manager > Datamarts. Note the number of rows populated for your datamart.

  1. Click on the Data tab at the top-left corner to review the data loaded into your datamart.
