About Publishing to DOC/PDF

To make the DOCX/PDF publishing work, you need to:

  1. Set an alternative conversion service – Optional step described 2656665757.
  2. Create a template export logic – Described in Build New DOCX Template.
  3. Create a DOCX template – Described in Build New DOCX Template.
    1. If the document is to be sent for an e-signature, add the appropriate elements as described 2656665757.
  4. Upload the template and set the logic created in Step 2 – Described in Set Up Publishing Templates.
  5. Test it – Create a new quote or other document, save it and export it to PDF or DOCX. Check that your variables are filled with real values.

Notes

Conversion Service

Documents can be exported to DOCX/PDF using a DOCX template. The template is processed via a Pricefx conversion service. If the Pricefx service is not working, the template is processed via the CloudConvert service.

As a fallback solution, you may want to define a connection to CloudConvert as described here

Both the Pricefx solution and CloudConvert use the open source library Docxtemplater. It supports a few simple variable types in the template (for free). For example of use, see Example of Using Variables in DOCX Template.

PDF for E-Signature

Pricefx allows you to configure connection to an electronic signature system (currently only DocuSign is supported). If you intend to send a document for an e-signature, you need to define a PDF template suitable for export to DocuSign. It must contain placeholders (anchors) where the signatures and dates will be placed.

The Download Word icon is shown by default but you can hide it using Advanced Configuration Options.

Export Format

It is possible to define that users can download only PDF files (but not DOC files). For details see Set Up Publishing Templates.
