Scatter Chart

Scatter chart is a typical pricing chart using coordinates to display values for two variables for a set of data. The data is displayed as a collection of points, each having the value of one variable determining the position on the horizontal axis and the value of the other variable determining the position on the vertical axis. It shows outliers and groups of data points.

Scatter chart helps you visually determine a relationship between two variables. For example, you can compare cost data and volume data to find out the fixed cost (the point where the regression line crosses the Y-axis) and the variable cost per unit (the slope of the regression line).

Specify Scatter Chart Details

To access a Scatter chart, go to Analytics > Data Analyzer > Scatter. The first tab called Chart contains the result chart. The second tab, whose name is taken from the Data Label field contains the data that is shown in the chart.

You can specify the Scatter chart details by doing the following:

  1. Enter the name of the data series in the Data Label field (max 60 characters).

  2. Choose a Data Source from the drop-down list. It can be any Pricefx data source – a Datamart, Data Feed, Simulation Datamart, Rollup or Optimization Model (DMT tables organized by Models to which they belong).

  3. Select a Currency to which money data will be converted.

  4. You can set up the Generic filter (all dimensions, dates and values):

    1. Click Add Generic filter, the Generic Filter dialog will open.

    2. Specify the filter criteria. You can combine individual rules with groups of rules as clauses and subclauses.

    3. Click Apply.

  5. You can create an Aggregation filter that allows you to filter the Datamart query results, i.e., to determine, which values will be shown in the chart.

  6. Product filter allows you to select products from the drop-down list or filter by attributes from the product master data. You can use the quick filters under the table header, set up an advanced filter or select an attribute value in the table, which selects all products with the same attribute value. Attributes that are not available for filtering are grayed out.

  7. Customer filter allows you to select customers from the drop-down list or filter by attributes from the customer master data. You can use the quick filters under the table header, set up an advanced filter or select an attribute value in the table, which selects all products with the same attribute value. Attributes that are not available for filtering are grayed out. Only the filtered data will be used in the analysis.

  8. You can set up a Dimension filter:

    1. Select the filter dimension from the drop down list.

    2. Select the values to filter by.

    3. Add more dimensions if required. In all subsequent filters you will only be able to select values complying with all previous filters.

  9. Define the axis X and axis Y:

    1. Select the appropriate measurements for the axis X and axis Y from the drop down list.

    2. Specify the value for the axis X and axis Y. The selectable options depend on the data type. For details see Data Calculation Options.

  10. Determine how the data is aggregated.

    1. Select the Aggregation By from the drop-down list. For example, when Customer is selected, each dot on the chart represents a customer.

    2. (Optional) You can activate the color banding by using 'Band By'.

If you select the same value as Aggregation By, the points are colored differently. If you choose a different value, the data is aggregated in addition to this value. For example, if you select 'customer class' in the Band By field, each dot represents a combination of customer class (e.g., "A") and the customer (e.g., "Müller GmbH"). You can make the 'Band by' color code displayed below the measures and in the chart by checking Show legend for Band By. The colors are customizable.
Only data fields marked as Dimension can be selected for aggregation and banding.

  11. (Optional) Enable the Show trend line checkbox.

    1. Enter a line Label. The label will be displayed at the legend by default, unless you disable the Show in legend option.

    2. Select the type – Linear regression or Exponential regression.

    3. Decide whether you want to display the calculated trend line values in the chart.

    4. Select the line color from the drop-down list.

  12. (Optional) Add more measures to the chart.

  13. (Optional) Click Add Series to be able to compare this chart with other data series. The selection of Data Source, all filters and the settings from the Data Display Options will be copied to the new series from Series 1.
The data from all series are displayed in one chart and one data table. The maximum number of series in a chart is 10.

  14. Click the Apply and Refresh button or the Refresh icon on the toolbar to update the chart.
