Time Series Chart

Time Series is a sequence of data points, measured typically at successive points in time spaced at uniform time intervals (year, quarter, month, week or exact invoice date are available in Pricefx). You can also compare two time periods with each other.

Time Series chart is suitable for evaluating patterns and behavior in data over time. You can examine seasonal variations or compare data patterns of different groups.

Specify Time Series Chart Details

To access a Time Series chart, go to AnalyticsData Analyzer > Time Series. The first tab Time Series Chart contains the result chart. The second tab, whose name is taken from the Data Label field contains the data that is shown in the chart.

You can specify the Time Series chart details by doing the following:

  1. Enter the name of the data series in the Data Label field (max 60 characters).

  2. Choose a Data Source from the drop-down list. It can be any Pricefx data source – a Datamart, Data Feed, Simulation Datamart, Rollup or Optimization Model (DMT tables organized by Models to which they belong).

  3. Select a Currency to which money data will be converted.

  4. You can set up the Generic filter (all dimensions, dates and values):

    1. Click Add Generic filter, the Generic Filter dialog will open. 

    2. Specify the filter criteria. You can combine individual rules with groups of rules as clauses and subclauses.

    3. Click Apply.

  5. You can create an Aggregation filter that allows you to filter the Datamart query results, i.e., to determine, which values will be shown in the chart.

  6. Product filter allows you to select products from the drop-down list or filter by attributes from the product master data. You can use the quick filters under the table header, set up an advanced filter or select an attribute value in the table, which selects all products with the same attribute value. Attributes that are not available for filtering are grayed out.

  7. Customer filter allows you to select customers from the drop-down list or filter by all attributes from the customer master data. You can use the quick filters under the table header, set up an advanced filter or select an attribute value in the table, which selects all products with the same attribute value. Attributes that are not available for filtering are grayed out. Only the filtered data will be used in the analysis.

  8. You can set up a Dimension filter:

    1. Select the filter dimension from the drop down list.

    2. Select the values to filter by.

    3. Add more dimensions if required. In all subsequent filters you will only be able to select values complying with all previous filters.

  9. You can limit the range of the displayed data to a certain percentage, percentile or a number of data rows of any variable (attribute). The rest of the data will be displayed in the chart grouped as ‘Other’. If these uncategorized data distort the proportions of the whole chart, you can hide it using the Hide [Other] option.

  10. Define the axis X and axis Y:

    1. Select the time period (intervals) on the time axis X-axis from the drop down list.

    2. Select the appropriate measurement for the axis Y from the drop down list.

    3. Specify the value for the axis Y. The selectable options depend on the data type. For details see Data Calculation Options. 

  11. Specify the chart type. The chart type can be defined as Bar , Line  or Spline (line diagram with flattened lines) .

  12. (Optional) You can add box plots to the chart to see the data distribution. If one or more measures are defined, you can specify a custom box plot expression for each measure.

  13. (Optional) Add a trend line to your chart:

    1. Enable the Show Trend Line checkbox.

    2. You can enter a line Label. The label will be displayed in the legend by default, unless you disable the Show in Legend option.

    3. Select the type – Linear regression or Exponential regression.

    4. Select the color from the drop-down list.

  14. (Optional) You can define additional Time Series:

    1. Click Add Measure and select one from the drop down list.

    2. Specify the value for the 'Aggregation'. The selectable options depend on the data type. For details see Data Calculation Options.

    3. Select a Type. The chart type can be defined as Bar , Line or Spline (line diagram with flattened lines) .

    4. You can optionally show the measured value on the axis Z by checking the Z checkbox. This is necessary when the scale of the data of the different measurements on the Y-axis differ (e.g., cash value and percentage).

    5. Repeat the process until you have defined all additional readings.

  15. (Optional) Click the Add Series to be able to compare this chart with other data series. The selection of Data Source, all filters and the settings from the Data Display Options will be copied to the new series from Series 1.
    The data from all series are displayed in one chart and one data table. The maximum number of series in a chart is 10.

  16. (Optional) In a configuration with multiple data series, you can compare series by creating a Join series. Set the relation (joining key) between the added data series and the base series. Note that series are always joined to the base Series 1, so you cannot compare, for example, Series 2 and 3. You can define up to 4 Join series.   17. Click the Apply and Refresh button or the Refresh icon on the toolbar to update the chart.
