Bubble Chart

Bubble chart is a type of chart that displays three dimensions of data. Bubble charts can be considered a variation of the scatter plot, in which the data points are replaced with bubbles. This type of chart can be used instead of a Scatter chart if your data has three data series, each of which contains a set of values.

Bubble chart enables you to analyze the sales performance of your products. You can display products by price and another attribute important to customers which influences buying behavior. The size of the bubble represents the amount of sold products. Looking at the chart, you can see the relationship between price-performance and sales and spot the gaps and overlaps in your product portfolio.

Specify Bubble Chart Details

To access a Bubble chart, go to AnalyticsData Analyzer > Bubble. The first tab Chart contains the result chart. The second tab contains the data that is shown in the chart.

You can specify the Bubble chart details by doing the following:

  1. Enter the name of the data series in the Data Label field (max 60 characters).

  2. Choose the Data Source from the drop-down list. It can be any Pricefx data source – a Datamart, Data Feed, Simulation Datamart, Rollup or Optimization Model (DMT tables organized by Models to which they belong).

  3. Select a Currency to which money data will be converted.

  4. You can set up the Generic filter (all dimensions, dates and values):

    1. Click Add Generic filter, the Generic Filter dialog will open.

    2. Specify the filter criteria. You can combine individual rules with groups of rules as clauses and subclauses.

    3. Click Apply.

  5. You can create an Aggregation filter that allows you to filter the Datamart query results, i.e., to determine, which values will be shown in the chart.

  6. Product filter allows you to select products from the drop-down list or filter by attributes from the product master data. You can use the quick filters under the table header, set up an advanced filter or select an attribute value in the table, which selects all products with the same attribute value. Attributes that are not available for filtering are grayed out.

  7. Customer filter allows you to select customers from the drop-down list or filter by attributes from the customer master data. You can use the quick filters under the table header, set up an advanced filter or select an attribute value in the table, which selects all products with the same attribute value. Attributes that are not available for filtering are grayed out. Only the filtered data will be used in the analysis.

  8. You can set up a Dimension filter:

    1. Select the filter dimension from the drop down list.

    2. Select the values to filter by.

    3. Add more dimensions if required. In all subsequent filters you will only be able to select values complying with all previous filters.

  9. You can limit the range of the displayed data to a certain percentage, percentile or a number of data rows of any variable (attribute). The rest of the data will be displayed in the chart grouped as ‘Other’. If these uncategorized data distort the proportions of the whole chart, you can hide it using the Hide [Other] option.

  10. Define the axis X and axis Y:

    1. Select the appropriate measurement for the axis X and axis Y from the drop-down list.

    2. Specify the value for the axis X and axis Y. The selectable options depend on the data type. For details see Data Calculation Options.

  11. Determine how the data is aggregated:

    1. Select the Aggregation By value from the drop-down list. For example, when 'Customer' is selected, each dot on the chart represents a customer.

    2. (Optional) You can activate the color banding by using 'Band By'.

If you select the same value as Aggregation By, the points are colored differently. If you choose a different value, the data is aggregated in addition to this value. For example, if you select 'customer class' in the Band By field, each dot represents a combination of customer class (e.g., "A") and the customer (e.g., "Müller GmbH"). You can make the 'Band by' color code displayed below the measures and in the chart by enabling Show Legend for Band by.

Only data fields marked as Dimension can be selected for aggregation and banding.

  12. Define the value for the bubble size:

    1. Choose the appropriate measurement for the Bubble Size from the drop-down list.

    2. Specify the value for the bubble size. The selectable options depend on the data type. For details see Data Calculation Options.
The size of the bubbles is normalized: the largest bubble is assigned the size 1, all other bubbles are displayed relative to this one.

  13. (Optional) Add a trend line to your chart:

    1. Enable the Show Trend Line checkbox.

    2. You can enter a line Label. The label will be displayed in the legend by default, unless you disable the Show in Legend option.

    3. Select the type – Linear regression or Exponential regression.

    4. Select the color from the drop-down list.

  14. (Optional) Add more measures to the chart.

  15. (Optional) Click Add Series to be able to compare this chart with other data series. The selection of Data Source, all filters and the settings from the Data Display Options will be copied to the new series from Series 1.
The data from all series are displayed in one chart and one data table. The maximum number of series in a chart is 10.

  16. Click the Apply and Refresh button or the Refresh icon on the toolbar to update the chart.

For details about how to load an existing chart, set the common chart options, auxiliary lines or how to zoom, see the Chart Options and Chart Auxiliary Lines pages.
