Why Pricefx Major Upgrades Are Irreversible

Pricefx Application Upgrade Process

All customer configurations (as well as customer data) are stored in databases. With every new release, new features are launched, and those features impact the structure of the databases.

During the upgrade process, our engineers execute deployment scripts that modify the database structure to the new version.

Downgrading Is Not Supported

Reversing the database structure to be compliant with an earlier Pricefx application is virtually impossible. This manual work is very complex, labor intensive and very risky in terms of data consistency. Simply put, downgrading Pricefx applications to previous releases is not supported.

Is There an Alternative?

There is one alternative, but not feasible in all scenarios. Customer Support can re-install an older release from a backup. This step overwrites anything in the cluster – including transactions having occurred in the window after the recent upgrades. Daily backups are retained for a period of 14 days.

The only viable alternative is to avoid wanting to downgrade. That is: invest the time to do a thorough test on your QA cluster prior to requesting an upgrade of your Production environment to be sure the upgrade works for you.
