"description": "The table contains data for profit for the first period, labeled as the Comparison Margin and period. Another field labeled Margin in and the period provides the profit for the final period. All the differences explaining the changes between the two periods are detailed in separate fields. The Volume Effect is the change in profit explained by the changes in sold quantity between the two periods. So the volume effect tells if higher quantities were sold during the latest period if the value is positive or less volume were sold if the value is negative. The Price Effect is the change explained by a price difference. This Price Effect is computed as the weighted average price change multiplied by the average volume between the two periods. So the Price Effect shows the impact of price policy, price increases results in a positive value, and price decreases in a negative value of the Price Effect. It is interesting to compare the Volume Effect and the Price Effect, especially if the values are in opposite directions. If prices have increased and the sum of Price Effect plus Volume Effect is still positive then the increase in prices results in more profit even if volume decreased. Similarly, if prices have decreased over the period and the sum of Price Effect plus Volume Effect is still positive then the decrease in prices was counterbalanced by more volume and resulted in more profit. The Portfolio Mix Effect captures the changes in the products sold, if cheaper products were sold then the Portfolio Mix Effect will be negative. If more premium products are sold, so with a higher average price, then the Portfolio Mix Effect will be positive. The Lost Business, which is always a negative value, shows the sales of products that were not bought anymore by a customer. Cost Effect are the cost changes between the periods, so a negative value shows an increase in cost that impacts negatively the profit. A positive Cost Effect reflects a decrease in cost so an increase in profit. It is interesting to compare Price Effect and Cost Effect, so if the sum of Price Effect and Cost Effect is positive it means the price increased more than the costs. If the sum of Price Effect and Cost Effect is negative it means the costs increased more than the prices. Other Effects contains the remaining values that are not assigned to other categories.",
