Waterfall Chart
Waterfall chart is a form of data visualization that allows you to determine the cumulative effect of sequentially introduced positive or negative values. The Waterfall chart is normally used for understanding how an initial value is affected by a series of intermediate positive or negative values. Usually the initial and the final values are represented by whole columns, while the intermediate values are denoted by floating columns.
Specify Waterfall Chart Details
To access a Waterfall chart, go to Analytics > Data Analyzer > Waterfall. The first tab called Chart contains the result chart. The second tab, whose name is taken from the Data Label field contains the data that is shown in the chart.
You can specify the Waterfall chart details by doing the following:
Enter the name of the data series in the Data Label field (max 60 characters).
Choose a Data Source from the drop-down list. It can be any Pricefx data source – a Datamart, Data Feed, Simulation Datamart, Rollup or Optimization Model (DMT tables organized by Models to which they belong).
Select a Currency to which money data will be converted.
Determine how the data is aggregated:
Select the value from the drop-down menu. For details see Data Calculation Options. You can set up the Generic filter (all dimensions, dates and values):
Click Add Generic filter, the Generic Filter dialog will open.
Specify the filter criteria. You can combine individual rules with groups of rules as clauses and subclauses.
Click Apply.
You can create an Aggregation filter that allows you to filter the Datamart query results, i.e., to determine, which values will be shown in the chart.
The Products filter allows you to select products or filter by attributes from the product master data. You can use the quick filters under the table header, set up an advanced filter or select an attribute value in the table, which selects all products with the same attribute value. Attributes that are not available for filtering are grayed out.
The Customers filter allows you to select customers or filter by attributes from the customer master data. You can use the quick filters under the table header, set up an advanced filter or select an attribute value in the table, which selects all customers with the same attribute value. Attributes that are not available for filtering are grayed out. Only the filtered data will be used in the analysis.
You can set up a Dimension filter:
Select the filter dimension from the drop down list.
Select the values to filter by.
Add more dimensions if required. In all subsequent filters you will only be able to select values complying with all previous filters.
(Optional) Disable the Show data labels checkbox to hide the variable values in the chart.
You can construct the Waterfall chart by doing the following:
Click Add Waterfall Element.
Select the Source from the drop down list.
You can also select the first value "-- (Auto-calculated adjustment point)" to add a point which takes the difference between two price points and then it calculates the remaining value after sum of all surcharges between these two points.Specify the type of the new element. There are three possible types:
Surcharge – Add to the element (e.g., costs as the starting point of the calculation, Percent Plus on an existing item, such as regional adjustment to prices to differentiate regionally).
Reduction – Subtracts from the element (e.g., bonuses, discounts).
Price point – Total or subtotal of items higher up on the list of elements.
Enter a Label. The field's label from the Datamart is pre-filled.
You can move elements with drag & drop.
You can delete elements by selecting the required element and clicking the Delete icon.Click the Apply and Refresh button to update the chart.
You can aggregate the elements and display them as one element:
In the chart area, click and drag the mouse cursor to draw a rectangle over the required elements. Note that price points cannot be selected.
The color of the selected elements changes to gray.
Click on any of the gray elements – and all the elements will be aggregated. The names of all the aggregated elements will be displayed on the X axis.
Click the element names on the X axis to give the aggregated elements a single label.
To disaggregate the elements, click the aggregated element – the elements will be shown separately again.
You can save the currently open chart as a default Waterfall chart – simply click the Save as Default button. This chart will be always loaded when you open the Waterfall chart editor and can be used as a template. You can view and edit the chart in the Default Waterfall configuration section.
