Migration to Unity UI

Pricefx application has two user interfaces: a new UI Unity which replaced the previous one called Classic. They both connect to the same Core backend.

Summary

Summary

Unity UI

  • New modern interface

  • Works on tablets

  • Integrates with Salesforce, MS Dynamics, SAP C4C, SugarCRM

Classic UI

  • Previous interface (developed during 2011–2018)

  • Does not work on tablets

  • Not easily integrated with CRMs

Core

  • Our backend (API, server, database)

Functionality

Unity UI provides the same functionality as Classic UI – and more. Development of new features in Classic ended in 2019, the focus is now fully on Unity. For example, internal messaging and emailing functionality in Rebate Agreements, mass approvals in LPG or flexible dashboard portlets are available only in Unity UI. And there are many other important functionalities (like simplified data imports) available only in the Unity UI.

Unity UI uses the same backend API and database tables as Classic. So it is possible to use them in parallel where the situation allows it.

Transition to Unity UI

As the new interface Unity is completely different from Classic, some of the settings cannot be transferred programmatically and it is necessary for the users to complete it (within just minutes). Moreover, these settings can also be defined as the new global defaults for everyone.

These settings include:

  • Set new user preferences in dashboards and in some tables.

  • Adjust portlet sizes and positions and save them as new preferences.

  • Adjust column widths in some tables.

Testing Requirements

The only testing required for end-users is to go through relevant scenarios (in addition to the testing done by the Pricefx team).

IT team does not have to be involved in the testing because switching to Unity only affects the UI and UI related settings. All you need to do in order to use the Unity interface is to change your browser URL. That's it.

The UI looks and behaves differently in some cases but the backend is the same. There are no changes to the Pricefx APIs or data interfaces with external customer systems, there are no new Data Feeds, no changes to the existing databases (tables and data fields) and no security-related changes. Moreover, the new Unity UI conforms to the latest security standards and developments.
