Apply Default Sorting Preferences for Price Lists or Price Grids

This article refers ONLY to price lists, but the same applies to price grids too.

Why

When you create a new price list and open it for the first time, you may see that no preferences are applied. Once it is open, you can create and apply a preference. But the initial opening of the price list may be slow. This is because the initial opening will sort the price list items by the id system field. And based on the default indexing scheme this may be slow.

When to Use

If the initial opening of your price list is too slow, it is recommended create a default preference and have it applied to all price lists upon initial opening. This is done in the Configuration section. Generally you sort by the SKU or a combination of SKU and key2 for the matrix price lists. Test the sorting to ensure that it provides the expected performance before applying it as a default.

Using default sorting preferences is recommended.

When Not to Use

In most cases, this won't be necessary. Additionally, global preferences only work when the logic is the same for the price lists. If there are various logics being used, the global preference will only work with those that share the same logic as the template.
