Understanding Your Data Sources

Within Pricefx there are two main Data Sources that you will be using in your day to day work.

The first of these is a DataMart. The configuration of these is undertaken by a configuration engineer and shouldn't be something that you're involved in, however it's worth understanding a little bit about how it works and how you can check the data to ensure that it's right for you.

The Second is a Pricing Rollup, which you have control over and which is covered here briefly and in more detail in our Pricing Rollups tutorial below.

Using Data Rollups

Rollups is a simple feature that allows you to roll data up on a higher level of aggregation. It gives us the capability to take the data source or data-mart which exists within Pricefx and apply further aggregation to get only specific information we need.

A great feature of Rollups is that it can be used as a data source for Analytics too.

We access Rollups on the Analytics Menu.

Within Pricefx analytics we have the tools to assist you in getting a far deeper understanding of Revenue and Margin overall, as well as by specific Customers, Products or groupings of either.

There are a number of different charts that you could use and we briefly show some of their uses.

Identifying Margin Leakage with Waterfall Charts

In this tutorial we'll be exploring the features that help you identify margin leakage and opportunities for margin improvement using the Pricing Waterfall chart in Pricefx.

Margin leakage reduces margin, but rather than being driven by cost increases or market forces, which result in Margin Compression, leakage occurs when concessions are made, which reduces profits.

Margin leakage can come in many forms, including promotions, discounts and other price concessions, off-invoice incentives and trade promotions, and costs to serve.

Being able to identify them is key to taking action and within the Pricefx Analytics module, the Pricing Waterfall is the best place to easily view this information.
