Introduction

Today weyou'll be exploring creating and using Quote Types in Pricefx.

...

With Quote Types you can significantly speed up the process of creating similar quotequotes.

Existing Quote Types

Quote Types are located on the Quoting Menu under Quote Types. Let's navigate there are have a look.

...

Here you can see a number of existing quote types that when you create a new quote are presented as templates for you to select from.

...

Quote Type Information

We You can see the information you need as you create your own. Here you can see the unique name, which cannot be changed once it's created.

...

The Last Update Date and then the Pricing Logic, which are pre-built parameters to meet various organizational strategies. Here we you can see we you have CPQ Logic, and also CPQ Logic for larges quotes as well as a large quotes light version, along with a Value Estimator Quote Logic.

...

Then the Header Logic, which determines the configuration of the Pricing Waterfall or any other header that your organization has pre-configured.

...

And then the Workflow Logic which determines who has approval rights on a quote and lastly the User Group Edit and View Details.

...

Creating a Quote Type

So let's try create creating one. We You can do that in two ways, firstly if there's a quote type that's similar to what you're looking for you can simply select it and hit duplicate, and then proceed to make the necessary changes.

...

Alternatively, to begin with, a blank template you click on Add Quote Type and a window opens where you can go ahead and populate the information for your template.

...

Let's call it Chemicals Quote, select CPQ Logic, CPQ Header, and Quote Workflow Logic and from the drop[-down lists:

...

And then the difference we have here is that we want to restrict this to specific User Groups, so let's select the Sales Manager User Group to Edit and Global Pricing Manager and Pricing Manager to the View Details area.

...

This means that anyone who is in the Sales Manager User Group can edit this and those in the Pricing Manager and Global Pricing Manager User Groups can only view the information and not make changes. The Quote Type will be hidden for all other User Groups.

If you were to leave these fields blank, then any user across the system would have the ability to view and edit this Quote Type template.

You will also have noticed that I skipped the Configuration Field. In this field, you can define the tabs of the Quote in JSON. JSON is an open standard file format and data interchange format that require some coding knowledge.  Using this you can add a tab to your quote that will work with the values entered on other tabs – for example, you can have a tab with a dashboard whose inputs will use the values entered by the user on the Items tab.

...

The Parameters for JSON in Quote Types are available in the technical section of our knowledge base on the Pricefx Unity link, in Application Modules and under Quote Types and is best configured by a developer or your system administrators.

This  This field is however optional and if you don't have a specific need for it, you can simply leave it blank and click Add.

...

And now if we you navigate to the Quotes Menu and click on Add New we you can see the template weyou've configured appear as an option on the menu.

...

If we you select it and open up the quote we you can see the default settings that have already appeared and you can now proceed to create the quote.

...

This is a great tool if you want to create templates to save you and your colleagues time and if you want to restrict access to only a certain user group too.
